The Jura and Alscae regions of France are characterized by rolling hills, pasteurs, and vineyards. There are plenty of small roads, all in good repair. Pictureque villages dot the landscape every 10-20 km, so there is no shortage of food or lodging. The local food, wine, and cheese is justifiably famous.
We made this trip is July and the weather was fine, perhaps just a little hot. It might be wise to avoid weekends and August to miss large crowds of tourists. Even mid-week in July we often had to try two or three hotels before finding a room.
A longer trip can be constructed by combining our tour of western Germany with this tour of eastern France.
