A combination of cosmic processes shapes the size and location of sub-Neptunes, one of the most common types of planets outside our solar system

Using data from NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite to study young sub-Neptunes, a team led by LPL alumna Rachel Fernandes and including current LPL grad student Galen Bergsten and LPL faculty Ilaria Pascucci and Tommi Koskinen has published research providing new insights on planetary formation and evolution.

Recent news from the LPL Spacewatch and Catalina Sky Survey programs

Will an Asteroid Wipe Out Humanity?
Dr. Melissa Brucker is Principal Investigator for the SPACEWATCH® program, which looks at 160 "potentially hazardous" objects per year.

This year's World Water Day focused on glacial preservation; the Snow4Flow mission seeks to answer questions about glacial health

Snow4Flow uses advanced airborne radar mounted to low-flying aircraft to study Arctic glaciers. The $30M project seeks to better understand how snowfall feeds glaciers and how fast those glaciers move. The work will help researchers make more accurate predictions about how glaciers shrink and grow, and how much they contribute to sea level change.
