Ryan Bronson
As an intern for the NASA / OSIRIS-REx mission, Ryan Bronson assisted with test procedures for the spacecraft’s three cameras. That experience fueled his interest in optical systems used for imaging stars or planetary objects and led to his participation in the telescope project.
His project focus was to design the optical system of the telescope. He also helped determine how the 80-pound primary mirror would be held in place and how much thermal mitigation would be required to retain full image quality.
The knowledge Bronson gained from his classes and time spent in the lab helped prepare him to tackle the project. That knowledge, and the rewarding relationships he formed with his teammates and sponsor, will stay with him well into the future.
Post-graduation, he has accepted a position as Optical Systems Engineer with Rockwell Collins Optronics in Carlsbad, California.
