LPL Colloquium: Dr. Devon Burr

Planetary Geomorphology and Other Surface Science in the New Astronomy and Planetary Science Department at Northern Arizona University

When

3:45 p.m., Nov. 12, 2019

Where

Dr. Devon Burr
Professor
Northern Arizona University

Planetary geomorphology, based largely on terrestrial experience, explores landscapes across the Solar System. Fluvial (formed by flowing liquid) and aeolian (formed by flowing gas) landscapes demonstrate the use of terrestrial analog research in planetary science, specifically for Mars and Titan. Planetary surface processes can also be investigated through geologic mapping, laboratory experiments, and telescopic observations. On-going research in the new Astronomy and Planetary Science Department at the Northern Arizona University will be used to illustrate these various techniques and highlight recent discoveries.
