Salty Water Everywhere, Nor Any Drop to Drink

With now several missions providing in situ environmental data across Mars, we can start to better understand the potential to presently form stable liquids, in particular brines, on its surface. Indeed, experimental work over the past decade has shown that brines may be stable for longer periods on Mars than previously thought due to metastability. Motivated by both experimental and in situ data, in this talk I’ll discuss new insights into #WaterOnMars, focusing on understanding the potential habitability of such liquid water environments.
