Radio Spectroscopy of Comets: Trends in Gas Production and Outflow
We use two of the largest radio telescopes to observe OH emissions from small bodies. Radio OH observations at 18cm are nicely complementary to optical and IR observations, and can be analyzed via Monte Carlo simulations to constrain gas production rates, outflow velocities, and coma density. I will review the observational techniques, modeling strategies, and results from our ongoing radio survey of comets.
